PerDatum Announces Easier OSHA and Workers' Compensation
Reporting and Improved Disability Management - October 15,
1998
Columbus, Ohio Easier OSHA and workers' compensation
reporting and improved disability management often sounds like a pipe
dream for members of the risk management information world. However, a
group of young entrepreneurs in Hilliard is making just such a pipe
dream come true.
The four principals who compose PerDatum, Inc., developed an
innovative series of software programs to assist safety, workers'
compensation, risk management, and occupational health professionals
with reporting and information management. Currently the group offers
their PROGNOS software for use at private and public employers, Managed
Care Organizations (MCOs), Third Party Administrators (TPAs), and case
management organizations throughout Ohio and the United States.
MCOs, TPAs, case managers and workers' comp administrators all
benefit from PerDatum's state-of-the-art 32-bit application which is
compatible for use in Windows 95, 98, or NT environment. PerDatum also
allows organizations to purchase add-on modules such as a Nurses Log for
recording and tracking treatment at onsite medical facilities. The
flexibility provided by offering a variety of product configurations and
add-on modules allows PerDatum to customize implementations to meet each
clients particular needs.
The group, established specifically to address the concerns of
professionals managing occupational injury and illness information, is
the only software vendor within this niche market offering solutions for
safety and incident reporting, as well as workers compensation,
risk management, and occupational health. In addition, recent releases
of the software are designed specifically to address concerns of
professionals working in MCOs and TPAs.
While making reporting within the complicated, highly regulated
world of workers compensation easier to navigate, PerDatum also offers a
unique feature the group listens to the needs of their clients.
Stasia Hanson of The Andersons Management Corp. in Maumee, Ohio noted, The
staff at PerDatum took our input and have been very receptive to the
suggestions weve made for what would work best for us. Everyone
has been great.
Clients such as Worthington Industries, The Scotts Company, Big Bear
Stores and The Ohio State University also sing PerDatums praises.
In addition to private, public, and governmental employers, PerDatum
services MCOs and TPAs with its four versions of PROGNOS.
Of the four systems, two provide safety and incident reporting
features with the remaining two systems providing features for detailed
management of workers' compensation and occupational disability
information. Safety and reporting systems range from PROGNOS-Compliance,
an entry-level employer product for recording incidents and creating
OSHA compliance reports. This system provides reporting capabilities
including OSHA forms 101, 200 and 200 summary and the proposed OSHA
forms 300 and 301 as well as the National Standard First Report of
Injury (Form 1A-1). The Professional version features the same
capabilities with extended functionality for reporting, statistical
analysis, incident investigation and transitional work management. In
addition, all PROGNOS products are available with state specific first
reports of injury.
On the workers compensation and disability management side,
PROGNOS- Administrator and MCO combine features found in the
Professional version with advanced functionality for allocating costs,
itemizing medical and indemnity payments, recording and tracking
diagnostic codes and descriptions, tracking health care providers and
patient progress. In addition, the MCO product provides a full range of
capabilities to address all aspects of workers compensation claims
management including electronic data interchange (EDI), fee bill
adjudication, check writing, treatment planning and provider profiling.
PerDatum initiated operations in Columbus in April 1993. At this
time, the group, composed of Mark Tochtenhagen, Mark VerMeulen, Mike
Hedge and Leo Renner, concentrated on product development until June
1994 when a beta version of PROGNOS was released. The beta release
provided the opportunity for field testing with several central Ohio
businesses. Field testing and product refinement continued through June
1995, when PROGNOS was released nationally. Since 1995, PerDatum has
released a second version, utilizing 32-bit client/server architecture
including solutions for electronic data interchange (EDI). The four
programs currently available also offer a variety of add-on modules,
which allow organizations to purchase only modules relevant to their
business needs.
At the close of 1998, PerDatum has conducted more than 400
installations within 250 federal, state and local government
organizations as well as public and private companies throughout 40
states, proving that easier workers compensation reporting and improved
disability management may not be a pipe dream after all.
